Dear White Sabers staff, membership and family;

Today at 4pm the Directors of all of the DCA Drum and Bugle Corps and the DCA Board of Directors all convened on a conference call to discuss the COVID-19 epidemic and its ramifications on the 2020 season. Due to many unavoidable factors, the 2020 season will unfortunately not happen. This decision did not come lightly for anyone, but we know in our hearts that it is the right call at the right time to keep everyone safe.

While this is an unprecedented situation in an unprecedented time, there is still good that can come of all of this as the White Sabers and DCA continue to move forward. We have all collectively decided to hit the “pause” button on the competitive season. However, drum corps is a state of mind and an experience like no other. I know many, if not all of us, will be itching to restore some semblance of a summer filled with making music and creating memories with friends and family. The White Sabers will plan for a non-competitive, tuition free summer season as soon as it is appropriate (as prescribed by Local and Federal Government as well as the CDC). We will move forward with fundraisers, parades and special events as restrictions allow so that we can build for an even bigger and stronger return in 2021!

I know that once all of our social distancing has ended there will be a great need for entertainment and drum corps’ will be anxiously looking to get out there and connect with people through performance!  I for one can’t wait!

My father used to tell me wise little sayings as a kid and I never fully understood them at the time. However, one that has really stuck with me in times like these is “Calm waters never made a good sea captain.” Essentially, these challenges happen and we can’t control that. However, we can gain incredible experience and knowledge to handle new things as they come and most importantly, we can use these times to put things in perspective for when things are smooth sailing.

I appreciate you all so very much. Take care and stay safe. I can’t wait to see you all soon!

Sincerely,

Ben Chaffee & the White Sabers Administrative Team
