The White Sabers Drum & Bugle Corps announces a Marching Arts Showcase to be held Saturday, August 28 at Marina Auto Stadium. The showcase will include performances by The Pride of Rochester Marching Band, Buffalo Niagara Scotia Society Pipes & Drums, The Mighty St. Joe’s Alumni Corps, and Brig Juice Mini Corps. The showcase will conclude with a mass finale with all participating groups.
As a competing corps in Drum Corps Associates (DCA), White Sabers will present their 2021 production, “Brave New World.” This performance will act as the final “Championship” show for the corps, who has been rehearsing and performing in Rochester each weekend since late April.
“Brave New World” focuses on how technology and the current environment has changed how we interact with each other. Being forced to communicate with loved ones through phone and computer screens instead of in person physical contact has changed our psyche. It’s apparent, more than ever, humanity’s need to make deep connections with one another through physical and meaningful interactions.
In light of the continued COVID-19 pandemic, DCA adopted a hybrid competition model for the 2021 season, in which corps recorded and submitted their performances for judges critique each week. The performances have been streamed via Box5 Media each Sunday throughout the summer. The season will culminate with a Virtual Championship show, streamed on Sunday, September 5.
“This season has been very challenging, but extremely rewarding! Nothing can replace live drum corps, but the virtual model was essential in 2021 to make sure that we can continue to grow the activity in 2022. The White Sabers are proud to be a part of such a unique and important season. Please come out and support the marching arts on August 28th and cheer on these amazing groups so we can cap the season with a memorable evening!” says Corps Director, Ben Chaffee.
The showcase is free and open to the public. Gates will open at 6:00 PM, with performances beginning at 7:00 PM. Pre-packaged concessions and corps merchandise will be available for purchase. 50/50 and cash raffle will also be available.
